Set your yardsails...
As promised, I turned off the computer this weekend, to get some perspective, hit the yardsales (note our new couch, and the colorful modular floor pads Mose is lying on), grill out, and make a collage. I also went to the grocery store and did some laundry. Now I feel much better, though Mose is teething HARD and so I'm still losing my mind a bit.
One interesting note is that the yardsale where the couch was purchased (Hi Judy!) was at the home of an awesome family, an inspirational family... a family who (as described by the mama of the family) one night found itself staring at the TV after a day of mindless work and realized they'd become "the walking dead".
So they got rid of the TV (a la John Prine) and changed their lives and careers. Papa started a nonprofit guitar camp of sorts, and Mama went back to school to paint... so the yardsale was happening because Mama had just accepted a faculty job at a small college in Louisiana. What an adventure! I found this amazing story to be food for thought...
Will Laurel get rid of her TV? "Stay tuned" and see.
In other news:
This week, we'll be visiting Iowa City, to read at Live from Prairie Lights, on May 4th, at 7 PM, with Thisbe Nissen, Margaret Schwartz, and Lee Klein. Also to visit my in-laws (who are dying to see Mose) and visit with friends, sip tea on Sarah's porch, eat a pistachio pizza from the Wedge!
Then on we'll go to Chicago, where we'll be reading at Women and Children First, on May 7th at 4:30 PM, with Dan Beachy Quick and Margaret Schwartz. Not to mention an NPR interview with Jason Derose in Chicago on May 8th.
We're very excited to see you! Please come?
